“Avatar is perfection. Every moment, light-hearted or emotionally deep, hilarious or epic. Every character (I love them like family). Every lesson to be learned (you won’t learn half this stuff in school). Shame on anyone who thinks it’s just a show.” I was watching a bunch of interviews from cast members/M. Night on the The Last Airbender and every time they called the A:TLA a cartoon I just cringed. There’s something connotative about the term cartoon (I don’t think there should be - if I had to list my 20 favorite shows of all time, a number of them would probably be cartoons (Pinky & the Brain comes to mind)) that makes referring to this show as one just sound dismissive. Every time the word came out of anyone’s mouth all I could think was - “This is why the movie was terrible. You just did not get what this was.” (That is, of course, a highly reductive view of why the movie was terrible. There were A LOT of reasons that movie was terrible).
